Rapunzel

20th November 2025 By

A Gala Durham Production

Rapunzel

In the dark, tangled forest of Hamsterley stands a mysterious tower, locals swear they can hear beautiful singing drifting through the trees, a voice so pure it stops even the bravest woodcutter in their tracks.

What the villagers don’t know is that the tower hides a single, sorrowful resident: the kind-hearted Rapunzel, whose only regular company is a plucky little red squirrel.

But the good folk of Hamsterley whisper of other things too. They dare not speak the name of Mistress Gothel, the enchantress who haunts the forest paths.

With the help of her new friends, can Rapunzel travel to the distant city of Durham and discover her true identity and solve the mystery of the floating lanterns?

Accessible performances

We will have a number of accessible performances of Rapunzel including a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted performance on Saturday 5 December, 2.00pm and a captioned performance on Saturday 12 December, 6.30pm.

Audio described performance

We will have an audio described performance of Rapunzel on Saturday 5 December, 6.30pm.

Audio description provides a blind or partially blind person with detailed visual descriptions of the performance that they may otherwise miss. It is listened to through a discreet receiver so the performance can be enjoyed with sighted friends and family.

Gala Durham will also be offering touch tours prior to the audio described performance for blind or partially blind audiences. This will be an opportunity to explore the stage, set, costumes, props and more ahead of attending the show.

You can book a headset and a place on our touch tour online after selecting your seat for our audio described performance.
