Presented by Durham Musical Theatre Company (DMTC)
Following on from their multi-award winning productions of The Producers, Half a Sixpence, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Evita and Chess, Durham Musical Theatre Company will be one of the first amateur groups in the UK to stage The Prince of Egypt in the North East première of the show.
The moving and epic tale of two brothers that will change the world is based on the beloved, Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film. The Prince of Egypt is a sweeping epic of a musical with music and lyrics by Grammy and Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked) and a book by Philip LaZebnik (Pocahontas, Mulan).
Based on the biblical story from Exodus, journey through the wonders of Ancient Egypt as Ramses and Moses, two young men raised together as brothers in a kingdom of privilege, find themselves suddenly divided by a secret past. One must rule as Pharaoh; the other must rise up and free his true people. Both face a destiny that will change history forever.
Told against a ravishing score with wonderful anthemic ballads, including the sublime Tony-Award winning: When You Believe, made famous by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, Make It Right, Deliver Us, Simcha, Through Heaven’s Eyes and many more, the show has a warm heart and is a very moving piece of musical theatre.
The Daily Express wrote: “This “Prince” is the new king of musicals. An event to dazzle, musical theatre doesn’t come bigger than this.”
