Providing a relaxed and inclusive cinema experience for disabled and neurodivergent audiences, we're delighted to be introducing relaxed screenings at Gala Durham. Our relaxed screenings are also open to anyone who is accepting of audiences with a range of access requirements.
Our screenings will be adapted as follows:
Our latest relaxed screening is the adaptation of Enid Blyton's fantasy adventure The Magic Faraway Tree.
A modern family learns to reconnect after being forced to move to the remote British countryside and discover a magical tree from where they are transported to spectacular and fantastical lands.
As part of our work to make Gala Durham as accessible as possible for all, audio description headsets will be offered on every film screening for those who are visually impaired.
Our screenings will be adapted as follows:
- Our lights will stay on at a low level
- The volume will be a bit lower
- Audiences can move around and make some noise as they need to
- There will be a chill out space if audiences need to take a break
- The film will have English Language Descriptive Subtitles if available for the film (please check in advance).
- There will be no ads or trailers, but a two minute film about how Relaxed Screenings work will be screened just before the film
- Doors to open at approx. 30 minutes before the screening and you are free to come in to get settled from this time
