We have a busy schedule at Gala Durham, but the venue is available to hire for local schools, amateur societies and community groups.
Gala Durham prides itself on being at the heart of the community in Durham. As well as presenting some of the country’s finest touring shows and performers, we are proud to work with local companies.
You may want to stage your own performance, awards ceremony or business conference, and if so, we’d love to hear from you.
As a professional theatre, we need to have in place a number of procedures for incoming companies, and whether you have visited us before, or are looking to hire the venue for the first time, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.
We are committed to engaging children and young people with our work. To this end, we work with local schools, colleges and universities to deliver exciting and innovative tours, workshops and projects to open up the world of theatre, both at our venue and yours.
There are a number of ways you and your students can get involved.
We are able to offer tours of our theatre at Gala Durham as well as talks with members of staff. In addition to the tour, we can also offer a bespoke package with options including a lighting or sound workshops. We can also tailor a package around careers in theatre. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Are you planning a visit to the theatre and need some extra support? Perhaps you’d like to enrich your experience with a post-show discussion with the cast or meet some of our Gala Durham team? Get in touch and we’ll help make your great visit exceptional.
We work with a wide range of practitioners and incoming companies to offer workshops that are show specific either in our theatres or we can come to your school or venue at a mutually convenient time.
“It was engaging as students were encouraged to take part in all activities, performances, and step-by-step instructions. Students enjoyed the process of moving to the music. The group leader was very proficient in their field, and was able to share insight into the professional world which students thought was great.” Rebecca Bell, St John’s, Bishop Auckland
