Award-winning actor Christopher Eccleston joins hosts of the Working Class Library podcast, Richard Benson, editor of The Bee, and Claire Malcolm, CEO of New Writing North, to discuss the legacy of the renowned poet Tony Harrison, in a special live podcast recording, a year on from Harrison’s death.
Christopher will be joined by poet Jo Clement to read from and discuss Tony Harrison’s 1978 poetry collection The School of Eloquence, which explores class and Northern identity.
Salford-born actor Christopher Eccleston is one of the UK’s best-known actors, whose big breakthrough came in the 1996 award-winning BBC drama Our Friends in the North, for which he won Best Actor in the Broadcast Press Guild Awards. In 2005, he was awarded Most Popular Actor at the National Television Awards for his role as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor in the BBC Revival of Dr Who. His film work includes the title roles in Jude, 24 Hour Party People and 28 Days Later.
Jo Clement is a Darlington-born poet of Gypsy, Roma, Traveller ethnicity. Her highly acclaimed first poetry collection, Outlandish, was published by Bloodaxe Books in 2022.
