The North East crime scene has two exciting new voices. Hear from Jo Murray, author of Dissection of a Murder, and Rebecca Philipson, author of How To get Away with Murder, about how County Durham inspired their debut crime thrillers full of sick serial killers and twisted legal procedures.
Jo Murray grew up in Teesside during the 1990s, when working-class girls were told they probably shouldn’t try to become barristers. Thankfully, she ignored everyone. After studying Classics at Newcastle University, she went to law school and was a criminal barrister before leaving the profession to look after her two children.
Rebecca Philipson grew up in County Durham, where she still lives. Having sold her business in 2020, Rebecca is now devoted to her writing career. She graduated from the University of East Anglia (UEA) Masters Program in 2024 and won a scholarship to Liverpool University, where she will be reading for a PhD in Creative Writing.
