Costume Designer – Rapunzel
Gala Durham is seeking a Costume Designer to work with us to deliver our pantomime, Rapunzel.
Written by Gary Kitching, this new version of the classic fairy tale will have a cast of 7 principle cast members plus a professional ensemble.
This is an exciting opportunity to create fun, bold and original costumes for our main house family Christmas show.
Who Can Apply?
We are looking for applications from costume designers who have professional theatre experience and are based in the UK. We would particularly like to hear from costume designers who are based in the North East.
You should have strong collaborative skills, experience of working with creative teams and within a busy producing environment.
You should have a strong track record of delivering projects to agreed timescales and parameters.
Responsibilities
- Working with the director and producer on the overall vision for the costumes required for the production
- Designing all costumes required for the production, including multiple costumes for the principle cast members and ensemble
- Making and/or sourcing all elements of the costumes required for the production
- Attending production meetings, rehearsals and fittings to uphold standards of artistic quality, ensuring all health, safety and welfare issues are dealt with
- Delivering the above within the budgets specified, and within the schedule of technical and dress rehearsal dates of the production
Key Dates
Deadline to apply 12noon on 1 March 2026.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal discussion the week beginning 9 March 2026.
Rehearsals will take place from 26 October 2026.
The production will take place from 19 November to 31 December 2026.
