Join us for the regional premiere of The Brook, a supernatural mystery fused with coming-of-age horror. Or as The Lament Configuration put it: “Byker Grove meets Scream!”
Moving to the village of his mother’s youth, art student Jacob discovers his grandad’s old video camera shows one hour into the past. In Elmbrook, a place steeped in strange folklore and whispered legends, the townspeople believe the village is protected by a puma that watches over the “good.”
But when one of the good locals mysteriously vanishes, Jacob and his friends, armed with the video camera, uncover clues that pull them deeper into Elmbrook’s bizarre secrets. What begins as a search for answers soon spirals into a dangerous mystery, as they find themselves following the trail of a vengeful serial killer.
The Brook, which was all filmed in the North East, marks the feature film debut of Durham-born and bred filmmaker Paul Stainthorpe of Hazy Pine Pictures. Paul has previously screened his documentary Big Smooth at Gala Durham and has also co-hosted special events celebrating Jaws and Back to the Future at the venue.
Following the film, there will be a short interval before we welcome Paul and members of the team, including actor Helen Chong, for a special Q&A.
The Brook recently had its World Premiere at the 27th edition of FrightFest in London and now it’s coming home! Join us for the Regional Premiere and help us celebrate independent filmmaking, homegrown talent and the incredible creative spirit of the North East.
